Essential Duties
• Assist in the planning, promotion, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of assigned aquatics and recreation activities.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, community leaders, and the general public.
• Promote and monitor water safety rules, regulations, and initiatives to maintain a safe environment for pool patrons and staff.
• Plan, train and assign duties and direct activities of pool staff.
• Operates preventative maintenance on pool equipment and splash pad.
• Maintain accurate records and report on inventory, attendance, maintenance, revenue, and expenditures.
• Plan and assist in budget preparation for the swimming pool.
• Teach, coordinate, and implement a variety of courses based on individual abilities and the needs of the community.
• Assist in the operation of the Sherman Parks and Recreation Department, including registration, equipment check-out, supervising rentals, and basic maintenance.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule that will include nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Thorough knowledge of pool safety rules and mechanical operation of pool equipment.
• Considerable knowledge of recreation philosophy, planning, and administration.
• Considerable knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operations, and techniques used in a comprehensive recreation program.
• Certified Pool Operator preferred.
• American Red Cross Certified Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR preferred
• American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) preferred or ability to obtain in 6 months.
• Food Managers License preferred
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Ability to operate Microsoft computer applications and other basic office equipment.
• Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License.
Salary $16.15/ hr. DOQ

Doug Braches at the Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center in Plano is needing a Water Aerobics Instructor to teach our M/W evening River Aerobics classes during the summer. The position pays $20.197572 per hour starting, and the schedule for the classes he needs is outlined below. This is currently only a summer only position but it does have the possibility of becoming a year round position depending on current instructor availability.


• River Aerobics; Monday & Wednesday; 6:45p-7:35p & 7:45p-8:35p
o Session 1: June 5 – June 28 (4 Weeks; 8 classes)
o Session 2: July 10 - Aug 2 (4 Weeks; 8 classes)

Summary of Duties: Under basic supervision, the Water Aerobics Instructor is responsible for planning, setting up and instruction of water

aerobics classes.


EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Plans, organizes, and instructs water aerobics classes.

• Maintains class attendance and course records.
• Sets up and breaks down equipment for each class.
• Promotes public relations with facility users by receiving and responding to their questions.
• Performs general housekeeping practices in the aquatic facility.
• Ensures the safety of class participants.
• Attends in-service meetings; maintains current certifications.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Typical Decisions: The incumbent must be able to exercise good judgment to ensure a safe environment for participants; must determine which equipment to use to meet participant objectives.


Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of: Current instruction techniques; current water aerobics techniques; CPR and first aid; water safety procedures, rules, and practices.


Skill in: Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing; demonstrating and teaching proper exercise techniques; interacting effectively with the public.


Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.


Experience: Some previous aerobics instruction experience preferred.


Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements


Licenses and Certifications: American Red Cross CPR and Standard First Aid certification. Water Fitness Instructor certification. Aquatic

Exercise Association (AEA) Certification or equivalent preferred.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Must possess mobility to work in and around City pools and facilities; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform light to medium physical work; to perform swimming and aerobics routines; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The job involves frequent walking to identify problems or hazards. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, twist and reach when teaching and demonstrating aerobics routines and maintaining pool area. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment.
Employees work in and around City pools and facilities and are exposed to loud noise levels, hot temperatures, chemical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes.
