Aquatic Technician

Summary:

The Aquatic Technician performs skilled maintenance and technical work in the operation, repair, and maintenance of public swimming pools, splash pads, fountains, and related mechanical equipment. This position ensures all aquatic facilities meet or exceed health and safety standards and operate efficiently.

Essential Functions:
· Monitor, maintain, and repair chemical feed systems, filtration equipment, and pumps at aquatic facilities. 
· Inspect, troubleshoot, and perform routine preventative maintenance on mechanical systems, plumbing, electrical components, and structures. 
· Conduct daily water chemistry testing and maintain proper chemical balances in accordance with local and state health codes. 
· Clean pools, backwash filters, and ensure proper circulation and sanitation systems are functioning. 
· Maintain accurate records of chemical readings, maintenance logs, and repairs. 
· Assist in the opening, closing, and winterization of aquatic facilities. 
· Collaborate with contractors and vendors for repairs, inspections, or facility upgrades. 
· Ensure all work areas are clean, safe, and properly maintained. 
· Respond to after-hours emergencies related to pool operations, as required. 
· Support and assist with special events, programming, and facility rentals. 
· Perform other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:
· High school diploma or GED equivalent. 
· Two (2) years of experience in aquatic facility maintenance or a related mechanical trade. 
· Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
· Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification. 
· HVAC, electrical, or plumbing certifications. 
· Experience working in a municipal or parks and recreation setting. 
Knowledge and Abilities:
· Knowledge of aquatic facility operations, water chemistry, and mechanical systems. 
· Ability to diagnose and repair pumps, filters, chlorinators, and related equipment. 
· Skilled in safe handling and application of pool chemicals. 
· Strong understanding of applicable health and safety regulations. 
· Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals. 
· Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and pool testing equipment. 
· Effective communication and documentation skills. 
· Ability to work independently or as part of a team. 
Physical Requirements:
· Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions. 
· Exposure to loud noises, chemicals, fumes, and inclement weather. 
· Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting for extended periods. 
· Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement to operate a vehicle or equipment.

GENERAL PURPOSE: Under the general direction of the Parks and Recreation Director, the Aquatics Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, supervising, and directing the daily operations, staffing, safety, and programming of the City’s aquatic facilities. This position ensures compliance with all applicable health, safety, and regulatory standards while delivering high-quality recreational services to the public. The Aquatics Manager exercises independent judgment in personnel, operational, and emergency response decisions and plays a key role in risk management, customer service, and staff development. The purpose of this position is to manage the operations department of NRH2O Water Park which consists of the aquatics, park services and park safety/EMT divisions. This is accomplished by supervising park personnel, assisting the maintenance division with inspections and minor maintenance of water park attractions and facilities, providing administrative direction and developing and implementing training and aquatic programs. Other responsibilities include ensuring the safety, satisfaction and enjoyment of aquatic park guests; interacting with other City employees and citizens; acting as the water park Person-In-Charge on a rotating schedule and executing duties, plans and programs which comply with NRH2O policies, government regulations and third-party requirements. This position supervises other employees. Work hours will vary from 8-5 M-F in the off-season (typically October-February) to longer hours as the park nears and enters the operating season (typically March-September) which will include nights, weekends and holidays as needed to ensure the park is ready to open and running normally.
